In my work I to create autobiographical works exhibiting my life through the lens of horror and strangeness. There is an interest in the beautiful and the wretched in my work. At the surface, my work explores the intersections of queer identity, abuse, low-income background, mental health struggles, and the disillusionment of the family dynamic.
This being true, there is often a reverence to camp and queer aesthetics in my work. I have found my work utilizes the components of classic anthology horror refrences. There is motifs of this media present in my work: the tendency to critisize heteronormatic white suburbia, the brevity of narriative in lieu of intensity, and the dedication to the beauty in the grotesque.
The foundation of all these ideas stems entirely from fear, for it is only in fear that we always see the most abhorred of society. Abhorred is easy to compartmentalize by era, and subsequently fear is easy to compartmentalize by era. Frightening art is a time capsule and yet also consistently resonates with me in my work. Although, I like to draft horror as something more broad and multidisciplinary.
